Innovative Strategies and Concepts for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences
ORPHEUS – Quality in Doctoral Education
The Organisation for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the European System, or ORPHEUS, aims to safeguard the PhD as a research degree by supporting graduate schools, faculties and departments, research students and their supervisors, through quality assurance mechanisms, and advocating best practices, professional development and training. With a particular focus in Biomedicine and Health Sciences, the ORPHEUS annual conference is an eagerly anticipated opportunity for all academics, directors and graduate managers, to share their best practices, network and grow excellence in their own doctoral education provision.
We are excited to announce that the ORPHEUS annual conference, 2024 on Innovative Strategies and Concepts for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences is being hosted by David Tvildiani Medical University (DTMU) in Tbilisi, Georgia on April 18th-20th. The venue for the conference is the Sheraton Grand Tbilisi Metechi Palace Hotel. Representatives from the ORPHEUS family of members and from AMEE, AMSE, WFME and the EUA-CDE will be participating. Innovative practices in doctoral education, as well as approaches to contemporary challenges being faced by doctoral schools, students and supervisors, will be delivered by selected keynote speakers. The traditional ORPHEUS conference format will of course include student representation, poster sessions and exciting and relevant expert panel discussions.
ORPHEUS runs thematic conferences annually, addressing key topics in graduate research of interest to its network. In cooperation with the Association of Medical Schools in Europe (AMSE) and the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), ORPHEUS has developed Best Practices for PhD Training.
Graduate schools can measure their practices in PhD training against these tenets and ORPHEUS offers support and guidance in the pursuit of certification and labelling as quality assurance mechanisms. ORPHEUS also offers disciplinary-specific training opportunities for research students and supports the professional development of new and experienced research supervisors.
