1. Prof Judith Shamian, President elect – International Council of Nurses, Geneva. Prof Shamian is the former President and CEO of the Canadian Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) and past President of the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA). She is also a Professor at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto, in Canada. She is involved as a researcher within its Nursing Health Services Research Unit. She was the Executive Director of the Canadian Federal Government’s Office of Nursing Policy for five years. Prof Shamian has published and spoken extensively nationally and internationally on issues surrounding nursing, health human resources, leadership, and health-care policy.

2. Prof David Richards, President elect – European Academy of Nursing Science. A University of Exeter professor, Prof Richards is anchored at the University’s Mood Disorders Centre, and is one of two Professors of nursing to become a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) senior investigator in England. The European Academy links nurse scientists across Europe and provides a forum to meet, work together and develop evidence base for nursing.
