This conference discussed new developments in PhD education in Germany, in particular as regards ensuring that PhD graduates receive training in the competencies they will need in their future careers, whether it be in academia or outside.

19th-21st October 2012, ORPHEUS Executive Committee meeting was held in Marseille (France)

October 19th-21st 2012, ORPHEUS  Executive Committee meeting was held in Marseille (France). Host of the meeting on behalf of University of Marseilles was ORPHEUS EC member Professor Andre Nieoullon. Hospitality of professor Nieoullon was memorable. Most important issues  discussed were:

  • Preparation for 2013 ORPEHUS Conference in Prague
  • Discussion and plans related to globalization  of ORPHEUS outside Europe (ORPHEUS MUNDUS project suggested in Bergen) and possibilities for global PhD standards in biomedicine and health Sciences.
  • Implementation of recommendations from 2012 ORPHEUS Conference in Bergen
  • French, Spanish, Russian and Turkish translations of ORPHEUS-AMSE-WFME Standards for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in Europe. Thanks to Professor Andre Nieoullon and Professor Luis Martinez Millan French and Spanish translations are finished.
  • Preliminary discussion about 2014 conference in Lausanne.

17th February - 21st March 2013, ORPHEUS President Zdravko Lackovic at Medical University of Karaganda

February 17th- March 21st 2013 ORPHEUS President Zdravko Lackovic was visiting Karaganda Medical University (KMU). Kazakhstan. Beside presenting ORPHEUS, to colleagues from Karaganda and some other Kazakhstan centers he had a lecture at conference on Evidence Based Medicine, and give several lectures to PhD and Master students on introduction of science. At the end of his stay Professor Lackovic prepared critical  report for the Faculty Board of KMU with suggestions how to improve research activity, visibility of research at KMU and how to organize and improve PhD Program.

20th-21st September 2012, High level dialogue meeting



Aarhus. September 20th-21st 2012.

This meeting brought together rectors of Edinburgh and Aarhus University together with the European Commission, and several other organizations such as LERU, VITAE and ORPHEUS. The meeting agreed that although there are differences between Scandinavian and UK PhD programmes, the intended outcomes were similar: that PhD graduates should be trained researchers at the highest level, and that PhD training should provide the competencies needed for employment either within or outside of academia.
