Statute and Founding Principles

Below is the ORPHEUS Statute and a collection of Standard Operating Procedures, outlining processes from the General Assembly to the Labelling Board.

ORPHEUS Statute Introduction

The Second European Conference on Harmonisation of PhD Programmes in Biomedicine and Health Sciences (Zagreb, 2005) brought together delegates from 33 universities across 21 European countries, alongside representatives from AMSE, ASPHER, EMA, and AMEE. Building on the 2004 Zagreb Declaration, the conference endorsed the Bologna Declaration’s principles, aiming to enhance collaboration, mobility, and standards in PhD education across Europe.

Recognising the need for high-quality PhD programmes and unified degree criteria within the Bologna framework, the conference established ORPHEUS to support these goals.

Pursuant to Article 11 of the Associations Act (Official Gazette No. 88/01), the ORPHEUS General Assembly formally adopted these Statutes on 30 April 2011 in Izmir, with subsequent revisions.
